Emuldrop® technology is based on a unique combination of surfactant agents (liquid fatty acids and polysorbate), which are fully activated after dilution in water-based fluids;

This dilution (either as sublingual drops or as drops in water-based fluids) favours the creation of a complete micellar dispersion that enhances the absorption of the active ingredients;

The glycerol-based system enables a high stability of the dispersed active molecules and, at the same time, rapid and prompt hydro-dispersion;

To assess the absorption of the active ingredients delivered with Emuldrop through the oral mucosa, the following was used melatonin as a marker, which, when taken orally, is known to have a low bioavailability of 2.5% per 10 mg (drug dose)
(Lars P. H. Andersen, 2016).

 

The test showed that melatonin delivered with Emuldrop technology and taken as oral drops or as an oral spray is absorbed up to 3 times more oromucously than solid orodispersible forms.

This assertion was validated by an in vitro study on the permeability of the human oral epithelium that was conducted to compare the absorption of melatonin administered with EMULDROP® with that of melatonin administered in conventional orodispersible tablet/powder form. (Abich test, 2020)
